Getting Married in the Richmond Team

We are very happy to explore the possibility of you being married in one of the churches in the Richmond Team. For this to be possible you need to either:

Even if you cannot demonstrate any of the above connections, we would still like to help you explore what possibilities there might be.

We welcome enquiries from those who have been divorced and wish to be married in church. Please contact our administrator who will arrange for you to meet with a member of the clergy team. Please read this booklet on the Church of England’s website before your meeting.

Qualifying Connection

A person has a qualifying connection with a parish if that person:

  • was baptised in the parish. (This does not apply where the baptism formed part of a combined service of baptism or confirmation); or
  • had his or her confirmation entered in a church register book of a church or chapel in the parish; or
  • has at any time had his or her usual place of residence in the parish for at least 6 months; or
  • has at any time habitually attended public worship in the parish for at least 6 months;

or a Parent of that person has at any time during that person’s lifetime:

  • had his or her usual place of residence in the parish for at least 6 months; or
  • habitually attended public worship in the parish for at least 6 months;

or a Parent or Grandparent of that person was married in the parish.

In all cases involving church services – i.e. going to normal church services, baptism, confirmation or marriage – this applies only to Church of England services.

To learn more about qualifying connections please see the Church of England’s website.

Please note that we do not normally conduct weddings in Lent, i.e. from Ash Wednesday until the day before Easter Day.
