Choir & Music at St John’s

The musical life of St John’s plays an important part in our worship and in the ministry of the church.

The Choir

St John the Divine has a voluntary choir which consists of a talented and committed group of singers who provide musical enrichment to our services. Their principal role is to lead worship at the main Sunday Eucharist at 11:00am. The choir sings a communion motet or anthem from a wide range of musical styles as well as leading the congregation in the Mass setting, psalm and hymns. See the current St John’s music list.

There are also occasional midweek services, such as Corpus Christi, the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, or All Souls’ Day, where a special Mass setting may be sung. For Team services, the three choirs from the Richmond Team Ministry (St John the Divine, St Mary Magdalene and St Matthias) join forces.

Weekly choir practice currently takes place on Wednesdays 1800-1900 and at 10.00am on Sunday mornings: an hour before the 11.00am service.

The church is fortunate to benefit from having a fine – and quite unique – Beale and Thynne organ built in 1896.
